Laguna College of Art + Design requires all employers to compensate interns unless they meet the seven criteria for unpaid internships set forth by the U.S. Department of Labor. If a “for-profit” employer is the primary beneficiary as designated by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the intern is considered an employee and is entitled to compensation. The type of work to be performed by this student during the internship is as follows:*

In order for students to receive one (0-1) unit of credit for an off campus internship, they must work a minimum of 50 hours. This is comparable to 30 contact hours in a semester class and 20 hours of out-of-class assignments required for a typical course taken on campus at LCAD.
