Student Internship Forms

LAGUNA COLLEGE OF ART + DESIGN INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
INFORMATION AND INSTRUCTIONS

Purpose: To provide the student with practical, hands-on experience in the professional environment as it relates to the student’s major.

Eligibility: Any student in good academic standing currently enrolled at LCAD. Internship students must follow all rules and regulations as stated in the current LCAD catalog. Students should consult with their Chair before accepting an internship.

Credit/Hours: In order for students to receive up to one unit of credit for an internship, they must satisfactorily work a minimum of 50 hours. This is comparable to a regularly scheduled BFA class offered on campus where 30 contact hours of instruction and 20 hours of out of class assignments are required. Students may also register for a zero (0) credit internship for notation on their transcript. The maximum number of internship credits a student may earn for their certificate or BFA degree is six (6) units of credits, three (3) units of credit per semester. Students receiving credit for an internship may also receive monetary compensation at the discretion of the internship site. If you are seeking academic credit for your internship, please note you will be assessed tuition charges accordingly.

Fair Labor Law: Laguna College of Art + Design requires all employers to compensate interns unless they meet the seven criteria for unpaid internships set forth by the U.S. Department of Labor.

Duration: The normal time for an internship to be completed will be one academic semester (summer semesters included). However, an internship may be of longer duration upon approval of the Chair. All necessary forms must be submitted to the Registrar in a timely manner prior to the start of the internship.

Termination: If the internship is terminated for any reason (other than economic layoff) during the course of the internship, please submit a letter indicating why with the final internship evaluation form.

Application: All students participating in an internship must submit an Internship Notice of Intent form and Employer Internship Agreement form.

Registration: A student must register prior to the add/drop deadline for that semester.

Grading: Credit will be awarded as specified above: 0 - 1 unit per 50 hours of work. The Final Evaluation Form must be submitted to Registrar no later than two weeks after completion of the internship for credit.
